The revival of the Shrine of Fair Forwyn y Mor, and the engagement of this church in addressing the needs of the community makes this a great place to experience ancient faith in practice engaging with real needs. From parlayed and worship, to a homely space this church and Shrine has much to offer.
On Tuesday afternoon, Hubby and I decided to go for another look inside the Church of St. Pedr.It was built between 1886-1887 and is now a Grade 2 listed building. This location was once an ancient pilgrimage site.Inside we admired the contrasting yellow and red stonework (sourced from Ruabon and Runcorn). We liked the craftsmanship of the beautiful stained-glass windows.I patted the eagle on the brass lecturn known affectionately as "The Golden Budgie". We received a friendly greeting by Father Huw Bryant. We explained that we were extremely interested in the holy veil so he kindly got the relic out of the safe for us to have a closer look at.It was bought for thousands of pounds from money donated to the Church from a local lady who recently died of cancer. The tiny piece of veil is sealed inside an ornate silver display stand. He showed us a document of authenticity signed by Father Mancini (an Italian Catholic Archbishop). This fragment was removed from the full veil in 1829.The rest of the silk veil (6 metres long) is on display at Chartres Cathedral in France.Prior to leaving, we signed the visitor's book and made a donation.
A lovely church, located off the main routes, but still at the heart of the community. Take a little time to find it and explore.
Hubby and I had a look around here on Ash Wednesday/Valentine's Day.It is a Grade 2 listed building completed in 1887.We both liked the gothic style architecture.Inside we admired the open timber roof, the numerous colourful stained-glass windows and the stone Baptismal font.We were particularly impressed with the brass eagle lecturn known locally as The Golden Budgie. We lit a candle to remember our lost loved ones and put a donation in the box.
